Momentum Breakout Scanner

A daily NSE stock scanner that scans over two years of Bhavcopy data and finds momentum breakouts stocks for next trading session and saves them as an Excel report.

Discover Tomorrow's Breakout Stocks Before They Explode.

The Momentum Breakout Scanner is a powerful Python-based tool that analyses 2+ years of historical NSE equity Bhavcopy data to identify stocks showing strong momentum, rising volume, tight consolidation and potential breakout setups for the next trading session.

After each market close, run the scanner to generate two actionable watchlists in a professionally formatted Excel report. Quality Breakouts highlights stocks that have already broken key resistance levels with strong volume, ranked by momentum score. Stocks To Watch identifies stocks approaching potential breakout levels before they happen.

Each report includes key technical metrics, breakout strength, volume analysis, ATR-based stop-loss and three target reference levels, helping you evaluate opportunities and plan your trades more efficiently without manually scanning hundreds of stocks.

Buy once and use it without monthly fees. Get the complete downloadable Python scanner with a step-by-step setup guide. No broker account, paid API or TradingView subscription required. Simply run it after market hours and prepare your watchlist for tomorrow.

Why traders choose the Momentum Breakout Scanner

Minutes, not hours

Instead of flipping through hundreds of charts every evening, you run one scan and open one Excel file. The daily routine is three short steps.

Clear, rule-based filters

A stock must be in an uptrend, liquid, volatile enough and coming out of a tight base before it can appear. The rules are written down, so you always know why a stock is listed.

Breakouts and a watchlist

Quality Breakouts show what has already broken its pivot on strong volume. Stocks To Watch shows what is close, so you can prepare for the next session.

Reference stop and targets

Each breakout comes with an ATR-based stop-loss and three target levels, sized to that stock’s own volatility. They are mechanical reference points, not forecasts.

No broker, no API key

It reads public NSE Bhavcopy files. Nothing connects to your broker, and the data stays on your own computer.

Pay once, no subscription

A single payment gets you the package, free updates for version 1.x and email support for setup issues.

Tune it your way

Volume thresholds, pivot lookback, breakout distance and watchlist distance are simple settings in a .env file, with sensible defaults to start with.

Built for beginners

The guide takes you from the downloaded file to a working daily scan, with no coding knowledge assumed.

Features in detail

Speed and cost

  • Written in Python, with a fast cached database after the first run
  • Uses free public NSE Bhavcopy files, so there is no data subscription to buy
  • No broker account, API key or TradingView subscription needed
  • About 15 minutes of setup, plus about 20 minutes of unattended data download the first time

Scanning

  • Cleans and combines the daily Bhavcopy for all NSE equity (EQ) stocks
  • Keeps only stocks in an uptrend (close above EMA 20, EMA 20 above EMA 50)
  • Filters for liquidity, enough volatility and a tight 10-day base
  • Pivot is the highest high of the previous 40 days, with no look-ahead

Signals and levels

  • Quality Breakout: closed above the pivot, not too far above it, on strong volume
  • Stocks To Watch: still just below the pivot with normal or better volume
  • Breakouts ranked by a score built from volume, movement and closeness to the pivot
  • ATR-based stop-loss and three target levels as mechanical reference points, not forecasts

The Excel report

  • Two sheets: Quality_Breakouts and Stocks_To_Watch
  • Every column explained in plain English below each table
  • A short checklist on the watchlist sheet for what to do next
  • One dated file per day in the output folder

Setup and operation

  • Daily routine: open the terminal, download the day’s Bhavcopy, run the scanner
  • Run once a day after 7:00 PM IST; your computer does not need to stay on all day
  • Thresholds and folders set in a .env file, with sensible defaults
  • Does not place orders and never connects to your broker
